My Interview in Ahmedabad Mirror Times

Publication: Ahmedabad Mirror;Date: May 17, 2012;Section: City;Page: 10

ROHIT VADHWANA POST: IN EMBASSY OF INDIA IN IRAN BATCH: 2010, IFS What is your reason to join Civil Service? It is an esteemed service profile with assured leadership and an opportunity to participate at the highest level of decision making. Your secret to success ... Hard work, consistency and positive attitude. How did you prepare for UPSC? I prepared a schedule and followed it. I had daily, weekly and monthly targets. The exam process takes one and half years from announcement of vacancy to final result. One needs to begin preparations at least a year before appearing for the exam. I used write and read books for relaxation. What study material did you use?NCERT books for basic understanding, competition magazines of different publications, newspaper editorials and headlines. I chose Law and Gujarati Literature as my optional on the basis of my interest, background, command over syllabus and availability of material. How should one face the interview board? The interview board is cordial. Try to be open and frank. Don’t try to deceive the learned members. Give brief and clear answers. Your choice of words must be appropriate. Advice to young UPSC aspirants ... Revise what you have already read. Try to be calm in exam hall. There is a limit to the attempts you can make. So, take a drop if you are unprepared. It will not be counted as an attempt.

“A big dream in a remote village”

Rahit Vadhwana belongs to a middle class family. He says that his educational background and awareness about the exam was not good because he is native of a very remote village. He belongs to a village in district Jamnagar of Gujarat, which is the last village on the western coast.
Rohit says though he took long time to clear the exam, but with the blessings of parents and support of wife and friends he finally cleared. This was his fourth attempt, third main and second interview. His wife Fehnida Shaikh encouraged and supported him all through the preparation.
He thanks Samkalp for its support and assistance. He did not take any formal coaching at any level, only an informal guidance at a welfare organization named ‘Spipa’ at Ahmedabad. “It was only Samkalp from where I got the guidance at the level of interview,”he says.
